Llar Trad Fest Kids

At Llar Trad Fest, we're intoducing an exciting children's program, directed by Mónica Acevedo, Janire Mañes, David Varela, and Xosé Antón “Ambás.” Our goal? To ignite a passion for traditional music and culture while sparking joy in our younger attendees. Designed to be both fun and enlightening, this program invites kids to immerse themselves in the beauty of Asturian music and culture, all within a warm and engaging setting. By making the most of Somiedo's stunning natural beauty through both indoor and outdoor activities, we cover everything from singing and dancing to composing music. Our approach is hands-on, ensuring that every child can connect deeply with the joy and heritage of music and develop a lifelong appreciation for our cultural roots.

We invite families to explore Asturian culture and music at Llar Trad Fest, offering a nurturing space for children to discover traditional arts. Join us for a festival that transcends entertainment, enriching the whole family against the backdrop of Asturias' breathtaking landscapes.

Every day kicks off from 10-11 AM with a vibrant session that brings together all teachers and students for a communal exploration of traditional Asturian rhythm and song. This inclusive start encourages families and students of all ages to engage with the culture together, showcasing a community united by music and dance. It's a perfect introduction to the festival spirit, emphasising collective participation over separate experiences.

Asturian Tradition Comes Alive: Before anything else, we immerse our participants in the rich heritage of Asturias. David and Xosé Antón “Ambás” are at the forefront, teaching traditional Asturian songs and dances. Their sessions are not just lessons; they're a journey into the heart of our culture, designed to be as entertaining as they are enlightening.

Plus, our program is trilingual—Asturian, Spanish, and English—making it a truly immersive experience.

What Our Program Offers

  • Tailored Workshops

Following the introduction to Asturian traditions, Mónica and Janire take the stage with their innovative improvisation technique, specifically developed for our young attendees. Their workshops seamlessly integrate vocal technique, improvisation, and on-the-spot composition, exploring both traditional tunes and creating new, original music.

  • Cultural Fusion with Circle Song

Harnessing the discipline of "circle song," our program fosters an environment where cultures merge, and creativity flourishes. Inspired by nature and using playful methods, children are taught to learn melodies and songs by ear, encouraging a lively and interactive learning experience.

  • International guest teachers

our program includes special sessions with over 30 incredible teachers from Asturias, Scotland, Ireland, the UK, Brittany, Galicia, and Castilla. Recognised as some of today's most influential musicians in Celtic music, they will share their instruments and stories, offering personal insights into their musical journeys. This interaction aims to demystify music making and inspire children through private performances and storytelling, enriching their festival experience.

Why our program stands out

Start the Day Together: Beginning each day as a large group emphasises that while we have a program specially designed for children, they are a vital part of the festival’s broader community.

Engaging Learning: After our communal start, children dive deeper into learning with activities that balance fun with educational content, ensuring they remain engaged and stimulated throughout the day.

Cultural Immersion: By placing a strong emphasis on Asturian traditions before moving into broader musical explorations, we ground our youngest participants in the local culture that's the festival's heart, before broadening their horizons with innovative musical techniques.

Outdoor Inspiration: Utilising Somiedo’s beauty, we extend learning beyond the classroom, incorporating nature into our musical activities.

Scheduled alongside our adult masterclasses: this arrangement allows parents to enjoy their sessions while their children embark on their own musical journey, exploring the heart of Asturian culture and music. Please remember, a lunchtime pickup is necessary.
